With over 16 years in the industry, Tyler Wisler has established himself as one of New York’s most influential and dynamic designers with an international clientele. With an ear to the ground and discerning eye, he has been sought out by not only the mega-online retailer OpenSky to be one of their taste-makers, but he is also an “eBay Influencer” and a content creator for Skype. Most notably though, Tyler is a Pinterest “Pinfluencer” in both the Home Decor and Men’s Fashion categories touted by both Mashable and the Huffington Post as “one to follow”. He has been seen in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, New York Spaces, and recently HOSS Magazine offered Tyler a position as one of their permanent celebrity contributors. Companies like Kohler, 3M, BRIZO, Cosentino and Benjamin Moore have all collaborated for that edgy aesthetic and authentic narrative that only Tyler can bring to a project.

Before you see the uber-successful designer January 20th at the Home + Remodeling Show, find out what makes him tick! Enjoy our fun Q&A below.

Q: What is the best part of your job?
Tyler: "I make spaces beautiful for a living…I mean come on?! Dream Job!"

Q: What was the last TV show you binge watched?
Tyler: "Oh gosh, I have been on a binge watching binge! Literally! I love all the British Crime Dramas! The Fall, Hinterland, Spotless, Broadchurch, Marcella…Let me know when you want me to stop. I’ve also run out of tea twice! Yeah, I gotta get into it, down to a proper cuppa tea while watching! Hehe!"

Q: What is your favorite paint color?
Tyler: "Black. It’s the simplest, most chic, most versatile color in the world."

Q: What were the last three songs played on your iPhone?
Tyler: "This question makes me feel old, cause I don’t have any music on my iPhone! Ugh!"

Q: If you could only use one which would you choose: Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat? Why?
Tyler: "I love Instagram and that you can tell a story with an image an no words, but there are so many more useful features on Facebook. That’s a tough one. Snapchat, I don’t understand, other than the place to make funny faces with my son, which I guess in that respect, has value! Ha!"

Q: What’s your go-to hostess gift?
Tyler: "A bottle of wine is always appreciated, but why not wrap that bottle in a gorgeous linen tea towel with a piece of natural twine and a fresh sprig of greenery or herbs and you’re set!"

Q: What’s one thing you think people should splurge on for their home?
Tyler: "Bedding. Think about it; you spend literally a third of your life in bed. Make it count, and be as comfortable as possible."

Q: Name one famous person you wish you could meet, and why?
Tyler: "I’m going to take the liberty of assuming dead or alive...I would love to have met Alexander McQueen. I think he is a genius for his visions. The Savage Beauty show a few years back at The Metropolitan was so so powerful, I still get chills thinking about how emotional it was. 10. What is your ultimate comfort food? I love Korean BBQ! Love! My grandmother was Korean, and I just love the complex flavors and spiciness! Gosh, I’m hungry now! What do you eat if you’re having a bad day? What don’t I eat… I do reach for the ice cream pretty often. Probably too often."

Q: Name one person in your field that you admire and why?
Tyler: "Nate. Nate Berkus has accomplished so much in his career, but I think the most amazing thing is that he has managed to bridge that gap between high-end design and the everyday consumer so seamlessly. That is such an admiral thing."

Q: What should homeowners look for when it comes to working with a contractor or interior designer?
Tyler: "Compatible personalities. When you enter into a relationship with a contractor and/or designer it is a relatively long-term relationship. The last thing you want to do is get into a project and realize you don’t see eye-to-eye, or have trouble communicating. That is not a good situation to be in."

Q: What’s one thing we wouldn’t guess about you?
Tyler: "I’m such a homebody. I love to just veg out and relax. Clubs, bars, parties… Not really my thing."

Q: What is your favorite space to makeover and why?
Tyler: "I love kitchens…You can utilize all the goodies designers love in that one space, especially if large enough to accommodate a breakfast area. Tiles, wood, fabric, furniture, appliances, plumbing… It’s all there!"

Q: What is one home improvement project you wouldn’t recommend someone trying to do on their own?
Tyler: "Sort of appropriate that I answered the last question kitchen, because that is definitely one room that I encourage folks to really not tackle on their own. It is a daunting process, with LOTS of moving parts, and lots of trades to coordinate. Hire a professional to help guide you through it. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and the last thing anyone wants is to be without a functioning kitchen for too long a period unnecessarily."
